Do you guys know it the non ST Ford Focus has a top speed governor. If so, at what speed? Also, is there a way to bypass this with an ECU reflash?

Kinja'd!!!

*This is specific to the standard US spec focus, with the 160hp, 2.0L N/A engine. with a manual mated to the engine, of course.

Edit: just heard of Paul Walker's death D: . RIP, you made some of the F&F's good!

If Car & Driver is to be believed, it's just shy of 120mph. Not sure about a reflash doing the trick though, you may want to check the forums for more info, there's bound to be some dudes trying to get rid of the limiters as well.

Why would you have any reason to disable the speed limiter? I'm sure it's probably somewhere around 130 mph. So unless you are planning on massive boost and race at a local track with a huge straight, I can think of zero reasons to drive that fast on plublic roads in the US.

If you happen to be asking because you do live in Germany and legally reach 130+, there might be a way to remove it. However, I'm sure Ford knew what they were doing and aren't setting that speed just to ruin anyone's fun.

I don't know about the Focus, but the Taurus is limited to 85 mph. It's most definitely limited by the ECU, but that's where my knowledge ends.

But even driving a Focus at 100+ is sketchy. I believe it is also around 130-135MPH.

I'm just wondering, since it is on my first car list right now. I know the Jetta is limited to 130, and I've had it over 110 at one point (on a very empty, very straight, freshly paved road) and it wasn't sketchy at all. just wondering what other cars in the segment have in this regard

Most new cars have an electronic limiter which can be removed. FYI the Ford dealer can find out if you have messed with the PCM if they suspect you of tampering.

Its limited to 130mph.

This is because driveshafts and tires and many other things.

There is also no reason to unlock any ECU for any economy car. Goodbye to your powertrain warranty instantly and for what? Nothing. Thats what.

If I may...

Listen kiddo, you can stop right there. There is precisely zero reason to ever drive that fast on public roads, no matter how freshly paved, straight, or empty of traffic they may be. Unless you are already a licensed racing driver, you do not posses the skills needed to react correctly should something happen.

You want to drive fast, you go find a racetrack and do so in a controlled environment. With proper safety gear. And some coaching as well.

If it were up to me I'd revoke your license priveledges before you even got to own a car.

Learn how to drive first before you go pushing bondaries, or you'll get yourself and/or others killed. Even the "pros" fuck it up. (That's a not so sublte hint to keep thinking on this evening's big news story)

Yes, I am an asshole. But maybe my rudeness will keep you from killing yourself.

Go to Focus Fanatics if you want to learn about tuning solutions for the MK3.

Yeah, I agree I shouldn't have done it :/
don't worry, you're not an asshole, and I appreciate the criticism.
Driving quickly is just a bad habit I got from my parents, who in turn got it from their parents.
sorry if my post or comment was offensive, I just genuinely wanted to know the limitation set to this car
